Create a signature

The signature goes on the page as an image. It is not a certified digital signature.

How to edit PDF files online

  1. Tap Choose a PDF to edit, or drag the file onto the page. A locked file opens once you type its password.
  2. Pick a tool, then click the spot on the page where the text, picture, shape or mark should go.
  3. Zoom in for careful placement, and use undo and redo to step back and forward through your changes.
  4. Save the edited PDF to your device.

The editor opens PDFs of up to 100 MB and 1,000 pages. A document can take up to 200 added items, and a single text box fits 2,000 characters.

What you can add to a PDF

  • Text placed anywhere on a page
  • Pictures, such as a logo, a stamp or a photo
  • A signature that you draw, type or upload as an image
  • Shapes: rectangle, ellipse, line and arrow
  • Pen and highlighter for handwritten notes and marked passages
  • White cover boxes to hide part of a page (read the limits below first)
  • Check, cross and date marks for forms and checklists

Text boxes come with fonts for Latin, Cyrillic, Greek, Arabic, Persian, Urdu, Hindi (Devanagari), Bengali, Thai, Chinese, Japanese and Korean, so you can write in the language the document already uses.

Fill in forms and change pages

If the PDF already has form fields, type into them and tick their boxes directly. If it is a flat form without fields, place text, check marks and dates on the lines instead.

The page tools cover the usual clean-up jobs:

  • Rotate pages that were scanned sideways
  • Delete pages you don't need
  • Add blank pages for notes or extra answers
  • Insert pages from another PDF
  • Put the pages in a new order

Common ways people edit PDF files

  • Fill in an application or tax form that has no fillable fields, using text, check marks and dates.
  • Place a signature image on a lease, an offer letter or a school permission slip.
  • Highlight passages and add notes to a draft before sending it back.
  • Add a logo or a stamp image to an invoice or a delivery note.
  • Remove blank or duplicate pages from a scan, and rotate the ones that came out sideways.
  • Bring in a page from another PDF, such as a signed cover sheet or an extra appendix.

Each of these jobs works on the pages as they are. The editor adds things on top of the existing content and can rearrange pages, but it never rewrites the text the PDF already contains.

What this PDF editor can't do

It can't change text that is already in the PDF. You can't retype a word inside an existing paragraph or fix a typo in the original text. What you can do is cover the old text with a white box and type new text on top.

A white cover box hides content only visually. The original text stays inside the file, where it can still be selected, copied or found by search. That is not redaction, so don't rely on it to remove confidential information.

What you place here is an image of your signature. Drawn, typed or uploaded, it is placed on the page like any other image. It is not a certified digital signature: no cryptographic certificate proves who signed or shows whether the file changed afterwards. When a contract calls for that, use a digital signature service.

Edit PDF files without uploading them

Contracts, tax forms and medical letters are exactly the kind of files that shouldn't sit on someone else's server. This editor opens the PDF in your browser's memory and saves the result straight back to your device.

There is no upload, no account, no email sign-up and no watermark on the result. Password-protected PDFs open after you type the password, which stays on your device.

After you edit

Need the file to look like a paper copy? Make the PDF look scanned. Too big for an email or an upload form? Compress the PDF to a target size. Want the pages as pictures? Use the PDF to JPG converter.

Edit PDF questions

Straight answers, including the things this editor won't do.

How can I edit PDF files online for free?

Open the PDF on this page, choose a tool and click where you want to add text, a picture or a mark, then save. There is no fee, no sign-up and no watermark.

Can I edit PDF text that is already there?

No. This editor can't change text that is already in the file. You can hide it with a white cover box and type new text on top, but the original text remains in the PDF.

Is a white cover box the same as redacting?

No. A cover box only hides content visually; the text underneath is still in the file and can be copied out. Use dedicated redaction software for confidential information.

Can I sign a PDF with this editor?

You can place a drawn, typed or uploaded signature on the page as an image. It is not a certified digital signature, so it can't prove who signed or that the file wasn't changed later.

Can I fill in a PDF form?

Yes. Fields the form already has can be typed into or ticked directly, and on flat forms you can place text, check marks and dates.

Can I add, delete or reorder pages?

Yes. You can rotate, delete and reorder pages, add blank pages, and insert pages from another PDF.

How large a PDF can I edit?

The editor opens PDFs of up to 100 MB and 1,000 pages, and you can add up to 200 items, with up to 2,000 characters in each text box.

Do I need to install anything or create an account?

No. The editor runs in your browser with no account, and the PDF stays on your device while you work on it.
