How to convert a PDF file to JPG
You need nothing besides the browser you are reading this in. The same three steps work on a phone, a tablet and a computer.
- Add the PDF. Drag it onto this page, or tap Choose PDF files and pick it from your device.
- Check the settings. JPG at 300 DPI suits most documents. To convert only some pages, tick them or type a range such as 1-3, 5, 8- (8- means page 8 to the end).
- Save the images. A single page downloads as one JPG. Several pages arrive together in one ZIP, named brochure-01.jpg, brochure-02.jpg and so on, so they stay in page order.
Is the PDF locked? Type its password in the field that appears on the page. Your browser uses it to open the file and keeps it on your device. If the password is wrong, you are told, and you can try again.
Settings you can change before saving:
- Format: JPG or PNG, plus WebP in browsers that can save it.
- Resolution: 150, 300 or 600 DPI, or a custom value from 72 to 1200 DPI.
- Pages: all of them, only the ones you tick, or ranges you type.
- JPG quality, and an optional size limit per image, such as 100 KB or 200 KB.
- Grayscale for pages that don't need color.
- One long image that stacks the selected pages from top to bottom.
High-quality JPGs: pick the right DPI
DPI means dots per inch. A PDF page has a fixed size in inches, so the DPI you choose decides how many pixels the JPG gets: page width in inches × DPI = image width in pixels. More pixels give you sharper small print and more room to zoom in or print large.
| DPI | A4 page | US Letter page | Good for |
|---|---|---|---|
| 150 | about 1240 × 1754 px | 1275 × 1650 px | Screens, chat apps, quick previews |
| 300 | about 2480 × 3508 px | 2550 × 3300 px | Printing at actual size, zooming into text, most forms |
| 600 | about 4961 × 7016 px | 5100 × 6600 px | Large prints, tiny type, detailed drawings and maps |
| 1200 (custom) | about 9921 × 14031 px | 10200 × 13200 px | Very fine detail, if your browser can hold a page that big |
For a high-resolution image from a PDF, 600 DPI is the usual step up. It doubles both the width and the height of a 300 DPI page, so the picture holds four times as many pixels and the file gets bigger as well. At 1200 DPI the count is sixteen times that of 300 DPI, which pays off only for pages with very fine detail.
The DPI you choose is also written into each image file. Print and layout programs read that value and place the page at its real paper size instead of guessing.
Every browser has a ceiling on how large one image can be. If a page would go past it at your setting, this PDF to JPG converter draws that page at the highest DPI that fits and shows a note saying so. You get the page at a lower resolution rather than a blank image.
Pages keep their own shape. A PDF that mixes A4 and Letter sheets, or portrait and landscape pages, gives you images in matching sizes, and any rotation saved in the PDF is respected.
Need a small JPG for an upload form?
Many online forms, from job portals to exam registrations and visa applications, accept only JPG files below a fixed size. Caps of 100 KB and 200 KB come up again and again.
Set a size limit under More options, and the PDF to JPG converter fits each page into it. JPG quality is lowered first and resolution second, step by step, until the file is small enough. The final size then appears next to every result, so you can check it before you upload.
If the form wants every page in a single file, choose one long image: the selected pages are stacked top to bottom into one JPG, centred on the widest page. Check its size before you upload it.
A version of this tool set up for exactly this job is PDF to JPG under 200 KB. If the form asks for a PDF rather than an image, compress the PDF to a target size instead.
Why this PDF to JPG converter never uploads your file
Plenty of ways to convert PDF to JPG online start by sending your document to someone else's server. That deserves a second thought when the PDF is a contract, a bank statement or a scan of your passport.
Here the work happens on your device. The page loads pdf.js, the open-source PDF engine from Mozilla, from this site's own domain. Your browser then opens the PDF, draws each page and saves the images. The site itself is a set of static files with no upload endpoint, so there is nowhere for a document to go.
You can check this yourself. Open your browser's developer tools, switch to the Network tab and convert a PDF. You will see requests for the site's own files and for the visit counter, and none that carries your document.
Passwords for locked PDFs stay on your device too. The site runs no ads. It counts visits with Google Analytics, which never receives your files, and you can switch that off at the bottom of any page.
Convert PDF to JPG on iPhone, Android, Mac or Windows
Because this PDF to JPG converter runs inside the browser, there is nothing to install. You don't need Acrobat or any other PDF software, just a web browser that is reasonably up to date.
- iPhone and iPad: open this page in Safari, tap Choose PDF files and pick the PDF from the Files app. The images save to the Downloads folder in Files, and tapping a ZIP there unpacks it. On iPhone there is also a Save to Photos button: it opens the share sheet, and its Save Images option puts the JPGs in your photo library.
- Android: use Chrome or another browser you like. JPGs and ZIP files land in your Downloads folder, where your file manager and photo apps can find them.
- Mac: use Safari, Chrome, Firefox or Edge. Downloads go to the Downloads folder, and a double-click opens a ZIP. Safari can't create WebP files, so that option is hidden there; JPG and PNG are unaffected.
- Windows 10 and 11: use Edge, Chrome or Firefox. The JPGs save to your Downloads folder, and File Explorer opens a ZIP with a double-click.
Phones have less memory to spare than computers, so very large PDFs or very high DPI settings may not work on them. If a page is too big at the DPI you picked, it is made at a lower DPI and a note tells you.
PDF to image: JPG, PNG or WebP?
Turning a PDF into an image doesn't have to mean JPG. All three formats below hold the same picture of your page; they differ in file size and in how much fine detail they keep.
| Format | File size | Detail | Use it for |
|---|---|---|---|
| JPG | Small | Gives up a little fine detail to save space | Sharing, email, chat apps, upload forms |
| PNG | Larger | Keeps every pixel exactly | Text-heavy pages, charts, line art, images you will edit |
| WebP | Usually smaller than JPG | Similar to JPG | Web pages and apps that accept it |
JPG (also called JPEG) is the safe choice when you don't know what the other side accepts, because almost every phone, computer and upload form accepts it. PNG suits pages made of text and drawings when edges must stay perfectly sharp, or when you plan to edit the image afterwards. WebP appears only in browsers that can create it, such as desktop Chrome, Edge and Firefox.
For lossless page images there is a dedicated PDF to PNG converter. Going the other way, JPG to PDF puts photos and scans back into a single PDF.
Questions about converting PDF to JPG
Short answers about this PDF to JPG converter, its quality settings and what happens to your file.
How can I convert a PDF file to JPG?
Drop the PDF on this page or tap Choose PDF files, then pick JPG and a resolution such as 300 DPI. Download one JPG per page, or a single ZIP when you save several pages.
Can I convert PDF to JPG on my phone?
Yes. It runs in your phone's browser, so there is no app to install, and the images go to your Downloads folder. On iPhone, Save to Photos opens the share sheet, where Save Images puts them in your photo library.
How do I turn a PDF into a JPG without Acrobat?
You don't need Acrobat or any other software. This page uses pdf.js, Mozilla's open-source PDF engine, to draw each page in your browser and save it as a JPG.
Are PDF to JPG converters safe?
It depends on where your file goes, and many converters upload it to their servers. This one doesn't: your browser opens and converts the PDF, and the Network tab in its developer tools will show that no request carries your file.
How can I convert a PDF to JPG in the highest quality?
Choose 600 DPI and the highest JPG quality, or pick PNG if you want no compression loss at all. Custom settings go up to 1200 DPI; if a page is too large for your browser at that size, it is made at the highest DPI that fits and you are told.
How do I convert a PDF to JPG without losing quality?
Text and drawings are redrawn at the DPI you choose, so 300 DPI or more keeps them crisp. JPG compression always drops a little detail; if you need every pixel kept exactly, choose PNG.
Is this PDF to JPG converter free, with no sign-up?
Yes: there is no account, no email, no watermark and no daily limit. Your own device does the work, so the only limit is how much your browser can handle.
Can I convert a password-protected PDF?
Yes, if you know the password. You type it on this page, your browser uses it to open the file, and it never leaves your device; a wrong password is reported so you can try again.
How can I convert a PDF to a 600 DPI JPG image?
Pick 600 DPI as the resolution before you save. An A4 page then becomes a JPG of about 4961 × 7016 pixels and a Letter page 5100 × 6600, with 600 DPI recorded in the file so it prints at its true size.
